About the Workshop

Across four workshops, residents, community members, and local organisations across Oxfordshire have been co-creating a vision for thriving streets and neighbourhoods that work for everyone -- sensing honestly what streets and neighbourhoods feel like right now, imagining what they could be, and designing locally meaningful indicators of change.

Workshop 5 is where that work meets the people with the power to act on it. Co-designed by Oxfordshire Liveable Streets with our project partners Citizen Architects, this session will bring community voices into the room alongside local government, planners, funders, businesses, and public health leaders. Not to present findings to decision-makers, but to work together on what it would actually take to move from vision to reality.

Where does this fit?

This is the final workshop in the Future Streets Oxfordshire participatory design series. We've spent two workshops gathering fears, hopes and dreams for our places, and two workshops considering how we describe and track success in our streets and neighbourhoods. Workshop 5 brings all this work together and considers how we might bring the desired future into the present moment.

What to expect

Co-design lies at the heart of this workshop, as with the rest of the series. The session will be built around the illustrated vision and community-designed indicators developed across the series - exploring how working with those indicators can help shift complex systems, and considering what more needs to be done to bring them to life.

Together, participants will explore what shifts - in policy, in practice, in how decisions get made - would start bringing that future into the present.

Who should attend?

We're seeking representation from across Oxfordshire - residents, community organisers, local businesses, elected members, council officers, funders, and civil society leaders. If you have a stake in how streets and neighbourhoods work, this session is for you.

FAQs

  • No. Workshops are open to all and designed so that anyone can participate at any stage. If you weren't at the other workshops, you'll be warmly welcomed and brought up to speed. No prior knowledge needed.

  • Yes, this workshop is free to attend.

  • Citizen Architects design and facilitate participatory processes as a stand-alone service, embedded within architectural commissions and as part of their research and teaching. They lead on participatory design that centres community voice and navigates power dynamics with care. Their practice brings 20+ years' experience creating inclusive engagement in complex public-sector contexts, bridging communities and institutions.

  • We haven’t booked a location for this workshop yet however it is likely to be central Oxford to support accessibility
